SUMMARY:CE / Dinner Meeting: Don’t Be Obtuse: Confidently Treat the Black
  Triangle
DESCRIPTION:\n\nCourse Summary:\nDon’t Be Obtuse: Confidently Treat the B
lack Triangle\n\n\n\n\nBlack interdental triangles are present in a wid
e swath of our patient population - both as a post-orthodontic complicatio
n and as an effect of long standing periodontal disease. Even though we se
e them frequently\, they can be unpredictable to restore - unless you have
the right armamentarium to do so. This course will cover options to treat
black triangles: with the help of anatomic shaped mylar\, good tissue r
etraction techniques and predictable results by diving into the reasons th
e triangles popped up in the first place. By better understanding the et
iology of black triangle spacing and your patient's perspective\, you
will walk away with some ideas on how to present treatment options the ne
xt time your patient asks about it.\n\nLearning Objectives:\n\n Understan
d the common etiologic factors of unsightly spaces at the gingival level\n
Realize the treatment options\, and understand the benefits of additive
dentistry to close black triangle spaces\n Consider the pros and cons
of alternatives to restorative dentistry\n Review techniques for closing
black triangles\, and not just in the esthetic zone\n\nSpeaker:\nDr. La
uren Yasuda Rainey\, DDS\n\nSpeaker Bio:\nDr. Lauren Yasuda Rainey is a gr
aduate of the University of the Pacific\, Arthur A Dugoni School of Dentis
try and completed a General Practice Residency at Tufts University School
of Dental Medicine. At Tufts she was introduced to the use of surgical mic
roscopes for restorative care\, which she continues to use today. In addit
ion to clinical practice\, Dr. Rainey began teaching at the Dugoni School
of Dentistry in the Department of Reconstructive Dental Sciences and the D
epartment of Dental Practice. There she taught both lectures and hands-on
coursework in teledentistry\, pre-clinical fixed and direct restorative an
d local anesthesia administration.\n\nDr. Rainey teaches direct composite
restorative programs including black triangle closures\, predictable Class
II techniques and is an advocate for using composite resin for crown alte
rnatives wherever possible. She teaches dentists in the US and Canada\, bo
th in-person and in virtual hands-on formats\, oftentimes using a surgical
microscope for enhanced visualization.\n\nIn 2016\, Dr. Rainey purchased
 a paper chart\, PPO-based practice\, and fully transitioned to a digital f
ee-for-service boutique practice in Berkeley\, California. She is active i
n giving back to her communities through her involvement in Girl Scouts\,
Mommy Dentists in Business. She currently sits on the board of the Alumni
Association at the Dugoni School of Dentistry and is a speaker for Catapul
t Education's Speakers Bureau. In her free time\, you can find her outdoor
s\, mentoring young women interested in the health professions or whipping
  up a cake.\n\n
