Dr. Manton is currently Chief of the Division of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry where he focuses on integrated medical-dental education and training for students, residents and faculty. He provides general anesthesia and perioperative care services in the OMS SurgiCenter and directs the Medical Emergency Response Team and its teaching internship program.

Description
After attending the Part 1 lecture presentation, this workshop will help you put the pieces together so that you have the knowledge and skills, to work as a team and save a life. In this hands-on workshop, you will work through several task-trainer-based stations that will help you practice patient monitoring and assessment, airway management, and medication preparation and delivery, all of which will help you become able to recognize a patient requiring urgent or emergent care and initiate evaluation and management in the dental setting. Dr. Manton will familiarize you with the preparation and delivery of the essential drugs you need in your emergency medical kit. Through hands-on practice, you will become more prepared, confident, and competent.
Objectives
1. Demonstrate use of the Systematic Approach
2. Demonstrate use of basic vital sign and patient monitors and describe their indications
3. Demonstrate use of supplemental oxygen supplies and equipment
4. Demonstrate proper use of basic airway maneuvers and airway adjuncts
5. Demonstrate proper preparation and delivery of common emergency drugs
6. Become familiar with common medical emergency response manuals and their algorithms
7. List roles and duties of the dental office resuscitation team members
